I’d like to try 2-3 more types of ammo to see if the magazines bind up with them as well. This wraps up my “first rounds” article, which will be followed down the road by a more extensive look. I’d like to hear from a few others to see if they have a similar experience with the Smith and Wesson Shield 9 EZ. The recoil is managed well by the recoil spring, but there’s still excessive pressure focused on one spot on my hand. It doesn’t recess all the way into the grip, so when the gun is recoiling it really focuses the backward force into the base of my palm. The texture is aggressive enough to help maintain grip, but not so much as to cause discomfort. After the first hundred rounds, my skin cells started accumulating on the frame in a fine white powder. I really like the aggressive texture on the frame. Let’s chat a little about the ergonomics of the gun. Federal’s American Eagle 115gr FMJ’s and Norma’s 108gr Monolithic Hollow Point (MHP) I brought along two types of ammo, Federal’s American Eagle 115gr FMJ’s and Norma’s 108gr Monolithic Hollow Point (MHP). Slide: Stainless steel with Armornite finish.Barrel: Stainless steel with Armornite finish. Now a quick look at the spec sheet before we retroactively hit the range. That’s a feature I can see a lot of older/more petite shooters appreciating. You can easily depress the follower allowing for easy insertion of the next round while using the strength of your whole hand instead of passing all that force through one thumb. 22 LR handguns, thumbstuds on the side of the magazine that allow you to control the follower. Finally, the magazine has a feature many will recognize from their favorite. It is not hard to rack this slide, I can do it with my thumb and ring finger alone. The firing mechanism is an internal hammer, which resists the cocking motion less than a striker-fired assembly does. The slide is not only serrated but has flared edges at the rear of the slide that reduces the grip strength needed to squeeze the slide. Plus, this range kit includes five 8-round magazines, and a protective M&P Pro Tac handgun case for safe, convenient transport to and from the range. The EZ goals are achieved in a couple of ways. The M&P Shield EZ fieldstrips easily without tools, or the need to pull the trigger first. Low-profile, 2-dot sights aid in rapid sight acquisition, and the rear sight adjusts for windage. An 18-degree grip angle and textured grip areas allow instinctive shooting, and superb control. A black Armornite® finished stainless steel slide and polymer frame make the M&P Shield EZ Semi-Auto Pistol extremely resistant to the corrosive effects of sweat and humidity when the gun is carried close to the body and, the slim, trim design and rounded or beveled edges enhance concealability. The single-piece, single-action trigger has a consistently crisp light pull, with an audible and highly tactile reset. The tactile loaded chamber indicator can be seen or felt. The M&P Shield EZ semi-automatic pistol features a reliable grip safety for superior control and safe handling. The single-stack 8-round magazine utilizes a load-assist button to ease tension on the loader's thumb. A lightened slide with reduced recoil-spring tension, an internal hammer, and plenty to grip onto at the rear of the slide, allow shooters to pull the slide back with minimal strength for loading and clearing the weapon. When designing the Shield EZ, Smith & Wesson focused on making the slide easy to rack and the magazine easy to load as well as making the pistol simple and safe to use. The Smith & Wesson® M&P® Shield™ EZ™ without Thumb Safety Semi-Auto Pistol Range Kit with 5 Magazines and M&P Pro Tac Single Handgun Case is a purpose-built range kit, designed to provide everything you need for a day at the range.
